Home / Trust & safety

Trust is the product. Everything else is a feature.

A skills exchange lives or dies on one question: would you let this person do this job? Every design decision below exists to make the answer knowable before you say yes.

Verified town membership

Every member verifies their identity and their address before their first trade. You always know a member is who they say they are, and that they actually live here.

Proof of skill, not promises

Profiles are portfolios: real photos of real work, qualifications where they matter, and a visible history of completed trades. No portfolio, no listing.

Reviews that can't be bought

Reviews only exist after a confirmed, completed trade. There is no other way to get one, which is exactly what makes them worth reading.

Humans handle disputes

If a trade goes wrong, credits are held while a real person looks at it. Clear outcomes: released, returned or split. No bots, no black-box appeals.

What we deliberately exclude

Some jobs need more than reviews.

Childcare, personal care, gas, electrics and anything safety-critical are not on TradeOff, and will not be in any near version. Those fields have qualification schemes, insurance regimes and inspection bodies for good reasons, and a reputation score is not a substitute for any of them.

The pilot trades in work where a bad outcome costs a redo, not a person's safety. That boundary is a feature, not a limitation.

Your data

Boring, by design.

Profiles, messages, portfolios and reviews are personal data and are treated that way: collected minimally, used only to run the exchange, never sold, and deletable when you leave. Verification documents are checked and then discarded, not stockpiled.

The full privacy notice ships with the pilot. It will be written in sentences.

Trade with neighbours, not strangers.

Verified members, one town, every trade on the record.
